The UGSAS-GU is hosting "UGSAS-GU 6-month Sandwich Program" for further development of academic and research collaboration with the member universities of the IC-GU12.
FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS
Eligibility: Candidates must be a student;
- 1) Who is registered in the doctoral courses of IC-GU12 member universities listed below.
- 2) Who is able to obtain Japanese Student Visa before the program starts.
Host University: The United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (Gifu or Shizuoka University)
Status under the Program: "Non-degree" status (UGSAS-GU Special Research Student)
Required Documents:
* Preferred Primary Academic Supervisor can be found at http://www.ugsas.gifu-u.ac.jp/eng/graduate/advisers.htm
Applicant must get the permission for the acceptance from the prospective supervisor before submission. (Please put a check mark in No.8 of the application form). If you do not have this permission, we can not accept your application form. In addition, if you want to know the e-mail address of Primary Academic Supervisor to obtain permission, please contact the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (renno@gifu-u.ac.jp).
* "10. Research Summary" should be a brief introduction of your current research and research plan to be conducted at Gifu University.
* "11. Your Supervisor's Comment" should be written by your supervisor at your home university. Please get his/her brief comment on your PhD research progress, your attitude, his/her expectation of your research at Gifu University, and so on.
Application Deadline: May 31, 2019 (5:00 pm. JST)
* Scanned copies of above 2 documents can be submitted to UGSAS, GU Office via E-mail (renno@gifu-u.ac.jp) for the first screening.
Screening and Exams Scheduled: June 10- 21, 2019
Notification to Successful Candidates: Mailed out on July 16, 2019
Program Period: 6 months from October 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020
Financial Aid: The students under the program can be financially supported by the UGSAS-GU with the estimated amount of 80,000 JPY. However, the students monthly supported by any other scholarship or funds with 80,000 JPY or more in total are not eligible to this financial support.
Tuition and Fees: Exam Fee, Entrance Fee, and Tuition are waived.
Travel and Other Expenses: Airfares, Housing Rent, Insurances should be provided by the students themselves.
Number of Students Accepted: About 2 students every academic year.
Summary of Program:
- (1) Great opportunity to take new/different advice from the professors of the UGSAS-GU in the equivalent field to his/hers
- (2) Eligible to take the subjects of UGSAS-GU. No credit, but a certificate of auditing will be issued.
- (3) The research presentation will be held at the end of the program in March.
- (4) Add the supervisor of the host university as a co-author if dissertations are written based on the guidance under this program.
FOR MASTER'S COURSE STUDENTS
The Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Gifu University (GSNST-GU) is hosting "GSNST-GU 6-month Sandwich Program" for further development of academic and research collaboration with the member universities of the IC-GU12.
Eligibility: Candidates must be a student;
- 1) Who is registered in the Master's courses of IC-GU12 member universities listed below.
- 2) Who is able to obtain Japanese Student Visa before the program starts.
Host University: The Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Gifu University. Department of Life Science and Chemistry (Molecular Science / Life Science) and Department of Agriculutral and Envirnmental Science.
Status under the Program: "Non-degree" status (GSNST-GU Special Auditor Student)
Required Documents:

- (3) Eligible to take the subjects of UGSAS-GU. Course credits and a certificate of auditing will be received.
- (4) The research presentation will be held at the end of the program in March.
- (5) Need to submit a Completion Report (Form H-2) to the dean of the GSNST-GU after the program period.
